How to Leverage Your Marketing Experience to Land a Digital Marketing Job in a New Industry

A little background. I am a business administration graduate (BBA) focused on marketing. I work 7 years, at a small family business that’s into crafts industry (or not I am not so sure). I started as a graphic designer and now I manage the whole company alone, as well as the Facebook ads, company site, customer service, sales and pricing. Basically I plan everything in there and tell people what needs to be done for the day. I will be starting my masters on digital marketing in hopes to find a better paying job that I can actually gain experience from. Sadly there is no-one in my small circle that I can ask for advice so here I am, asking how can I utilise my current experience and use it to find a digital marketing oriented job on a different industry.

We understand your situation. It can be difficult to find a good job in digital marketing, especially if you are not sure what industry you want to work in. However, your experience in the crafts industry is still valuable, and you can use it to your advantage when applying for jobs.

Here are a few tips on how to utilize your current experience and find a digital marketing oriented job on a different industry:

  • Highlight your transferable skills. When you are applying for jobs, be sure to highlight the skills that you have that are transferable to digital marketing. This could include things like your ability to manage social media accounts, create content, and track results.
  • Network with people in the industry. Attend industry events, connect with people on LinkedIn, and reach out to people who work in digital marketing in the industries that you are interested in. This will help you to learn more about the industry and make connections that could lead to job opportunities.
  • Get certified. There are many digital marketing certifications available that can help you to demonstrate your skills and knowledge to potential employers. This could be a good way to show that you are serious about digital marketing and that you are up-to-date on the latest trends.
  • Gain experience. If you can, try to gain some experience in digital marketing before you start applying for jobs. This could involve volunteering for a nonprofit organization, taking on a freelance project, or interning at a digital marketing agency.

With your experience and education, you should be well-positioned to find a digital marketing job in a different industry. Just be sure to highlight your transferable skills, network with people in the industry, get certified, and gain experience.

By highlighting your specific accomplishments and skills, you can show potential employers that you have the experience and knowledge necessary to succeed in digital marketing.

I hope this helps!
